In 1798, Major Dubied introduced the world’s first commercially produced verte absinthe. Few people know, however, that in addition to this verte absinthe, his ledgers frequently included an entry labeled “Eau de Mère.” Thanks to the later discovery of this drink’s recipe, we now know that it was a blanche version of their absinthe, which surprisingly differed significantly from its original verte counterpart. Unfortunately, no sample of this mysterious blanche called Eau de Mère has survived to this day.
To ensure this exceptional drink does not fade into oblivion, we decided to join forces with the uncrowned king of Swiss blanche absinthes, Claud-Alain Bugnon, to reproduce this absinthe together and breathe new life into the recipe.
The result is a unique replica of a vintage blanche absinthe, harkening back to the early pre-ban blanche absinthes. The bottle comes in two versions: one produced in the Czech Republic under the Prince d'Absinthe brand, and the other produced in Switzerland at the Artemisia distillery under the direction of Claude-Alain Bugnon.
